Benefit Play Draws Small Crowd in Scandia

A three act mystery comedy Behind Locked Doors staged by Scandia Community Club at the school auditorium drew a small crowd but high praise for cast and crew. Director E C Wires led Vernon Holmes Ada Jeandebeur Norma Aspegren Bobby Ewing John Nystrom Jimmy Larsen Walter Berger Ercell Lindblad. accompanist Mary West. Scandia Band led by Fred Reasoner performed before and after the play. Proceeds support the Scandia Band through summer months.

New Minister Installed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church

Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Norway installed Rev. O. V. Oake r as minister on Sunday morning June 18 with installation led by Rev. Larson District President. Oaker came from Gully Minnesota and moved to Norway with his family last Wednesday. Mrs. R A Rasmussen visited Mrs. J E Englund on Monday.

G C Moore of Agenda chosen to speak at Scandia July 4 celebration. A Republic County native with wide Odd Fellow ties, he has long directed educational work in Kansas cities. He holds degrees from Kansas State College, University of Kansas, and a MA from University of Chicago with a noted thesis on school law interpretation.

Pioneer Resident Johanna Linden Dies at 96

Mrs. Johanna Gustafva Linden longtime Scandia area resident died last Friday at age 96 years one month and 20 days. She and her husband homesteaded northwest of Scandia in 1871 and raised a family among the area’s most respected citizens. Her husband died in 1921 leaving her a widow for 45 years. A large group of relatives from Salina Concordia Denver and Republic vicinity visited and shared memories during the days surrounding her passing.

Scandia beat Deshler 14-0 on the home diamond last Sunday. N Freed pitched for Scandia while Bretman Bruns and Thime pitched for Deshler. Landscape of Flowers in East Scandia Cultivated by Cardwells

A public display in Scandia shows a rich lawn of many flower varieties. Cosmos larkspurs snapdragons petunias phlox carnations moss poppies and more are arranged with wisteria vines rose bushes and flowering beans. Fruit trees also add to the scene inviting local flower lovers to view the view.

Probate Court Code Changes Implement July 1 1939

Kansas Legislature enacts the 1939 Probate Code and Property Act, replacing earlier laws. The new code basics probate and guardianship actions by petition with required factual elements. Provisions limit judges from asset dealings and counsel roles. provisions also authorize pro tem probate judges when the regular judge is absent or insane.
