Scandia Set to Open School Year with New Staff and Programs
Scandia high school students will begin regular classes next Monday September 4 after enrolling in courses last week. Grade school starts then as well. The district holds a Class A rating in the North Central Association and offers Vocational Home Economics Agriculture Commerce Journalism College Preparatory and General tracks plus music athletics and dramatic arts. The new gymnasium auditorium built in 1936 enhances indoor sports and school programs. F K Reasoner will direct the all school band with six new instructors joining: Otis Rogers Luella Ruthman Alma Nichols Chester Lemon Carl W Claire and Wm E Hodges superintendent.

O M Hardtarfer, formerly a Scandia Schools teacher, accepts the vocational agriculture trainer and coach job at Lenora for the coming year. He earned a 1932 B S in Agricultural Economics from Kansas State College Manhattan and previously taught at Brewster High School. He will coach football basketball track and wrestling at Lenora. Mrs Fred Jensen of Cheyenne Wyoming visited Scandia from Sunday to Wednesday.

Open-Air Summer Union Services Close in City Park

Record Corn Height Wins Big Prize in Iowa Contest

Death of Leo Thomas After Park Accident
Leo Thomas youngest son of Mr and Mrs Roy Thomas of Scandia died Monday evening at Patterson Memorial hospital Belleville from a severe head blow and complications after an accident Saturday at Pawnee Park near Republic. He was injured Saturday night and treated at home before a pullmotor was used. A devoted student and friend, Leo grew up in the Scandia area after moving from the Kackley vicinity during his high school years. He will be mourned by many friends in Scandia.
