The Priest River Community Action group met at the Youth Center to discuss upcoming dances though details are pending. They also voted to move meetings to the third Tuesday each month and noted Shirley Kimmins keeps the center open Mondays and Wednesdays after Carol Maurer’s resignation, with Friday closure due to football games.
A group led by Carl Wenger and Robert Romancier from Washington D.C. Forest Service conducted a general functional inspection at the Priest River Intermountain Forest and Range Experiment Station. Also visiting were Joseph Techanec Charles Wellsner and staff from Ogden Utah and Moscow Idaho Forestry Labs.
Grouse season begins Saturday September 19 across the Idaho Panhandle with a daily bag limit of three and a possession limit of six after day one. Hunters may use rifles pistols and shotguns. a fully feathered wing must remain attached to any game bird in the field or while in transit.

Ed Simmerman of the Association of Idaho Cities told the Interim Committee on Highway Needs in Boise that a $40 yearly auto tax could replace property taxes funding streets and highways. A $14 million total is needed, with a graduated tax by vehicle weight age and value, and local matching funds for highway grants.
Robert Barnes an 18 year old of Sandpoint pleaded not guilty in Police Court to a charge of calling a bomb scare at Sandpoint High School last Friday. The indictable misdemeanor carries up to one year in the county jail. Barnes may seek a preliminary hearing before possible transfer to District Court. He was released on his own recognizance. the scare follows several similar threats troubling Sandpoint officials.
Yost, head of the Associated Taxpayers of Idaho, told 86 teachers and Priest River Chamber members that state subventions are rising faster than property taxes and new taxes may be needed if the trend continues. He urged studying the proposed constitution, noting its shift from restrictive to permissive and questioning water rights and debt provisions.
In Mexico City a well dressed man won 3.2 million dollars in the National Independence Day Lottery by selecting number 19141. Ticket vendor Juanita Hernandez said she sold the 80 peso ticket to the mystery buyer who asked for the winning draw. No identification is required to claim the prize, with collection possible at any bank using the ticket.
