Council Meeting States No Police Irregularities
The Sandpoint City Council met to hear that the police department acted within its rights with no irregularities found after a meeting with the County Prosecuting Attorney. A public hearing on police matters is set for September 22 at 7:30 p.m. at city hall. News media were invited to attend and discuss the issue at the hearing.

Mistrial Declared in Pend Oreille Burglary Case
District Judge Dar Cogswell declared a mistrial in the first degree burglary trial of Harold Rivers and ordered a venue change. The case, tied to the Pend Oreille Sports Shop burglary in March 1970, will move to Kootenai County for a new trial the week of January 11 1971. Bond remains set at $1500.

Forest Service conducts prescribed burns in Kaniksu National Forest
Duane Hadley, Fire Control Coordinator at Sandpoint, says small acreages are burned across the Kaniksu National Forest. A 50 acre tract burned Saturday in the Clark Fork District and 60 acres Sunday, plus 338 acres yesterday, bringing total to about 8400 acres planned before burn season ends.

Mishap Sends Car In Ditch Near Careywood
A Sandpoint man Billie S. Lane age 23 received a citation for inattentive driving after a single car accident on U S 95 half a mile south of Careywood. Lane said he fell asleep at the wheel and the car left the road into a ditch with no injuries and no skid marks observed.
