Bi-Rite Burglary Suspect Arrested

Spokane man Arthur Lynn Broadsword was arrested on warrants from Spokane County and Kootenai County after police found stolen items at his home. Some items from the Bi-Rite Drugstore burglary in Sandpoint were identified, with investigation continuing.

Phillips Exeter admits girls for first time at fall term

Exeter New Hampshire Phillips Exeter Academy will admit girls for the first time at the start of the fall term. Of 330 new pupils arriving Sunday, 40 are girls, giving the school's total enrollment as 890.

Skydiver Hurt In Boise During Stadium Jump

Boise sky diver Walter Benton 27 remained in serious condition at St. Alphonsus Hospital after losing control of his parachute during a dedication jump at Boise State College Bronco Stadium. Benton fell more than 100 feet before rescue. fellow divers Larry Homstad Gary Gray and Tom Sullivan landed safely.

WSU President Denies Rumors Of Closure

Pullman Washington State University President Glenn Terrell told about 1,500 parents at the new student orientation that the campus will stay open for the coming school year despite rumors of a shutdown. He said the university would pursue changes peacefully without strikes and demonstrations affecting education.

Shrine Food Caravan Heads to Spokane Benefit

The annual Shrine Food Caravan for the Crippled Children's Hospital in Spokane is set for Saturday September 19. The caravan starts in Grangeville Idaho, travels north through Idaho to the Canadian border, with about 10 vehicles prepped for the drive. Donations of canned goods and fresh produce are welcomed at Sandpoint Motor Company until 3 pm Friday.
