Bank Records Checking Law Declared Unconstitutional
A federal district court in San Francisco ruled that the Bank Secrecy Act’s blanket power to inspect individual banking records violates privacy and the Fourth Amendment. The decision invalidates the broader surveillance provisions while upholding requirements for microfilmed records and large international transactions. Andrus Signs Fed Agreement to Share Inspections

Chamber Commerce To Meet Tuesday In Sandpoint
Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce plans its first fall meeting Tuesday September 12 at noon at the Sandpoint Elks Club. The program features a Sandpoint area film by KREM-TV Cap Davis and Lily Hedlund with Tom Olsen presenting. Ballots for the Directors election will be counted at the meeting and members should return ballots. The secretary reported pledges totaling 8919.55 toward a 12000 goal. Tourism counts for May through August total 4445 visitors, up 19 percent from 1971. Merchants meet on Thursday September 21 at 12 noon the Pastime Cafe and Waterways Committee meets Friday September 29 at the Pastime Cafe. Members are urged to attend the Tuesday Elks Club meeting and bring a guest.
