Car Train Collision Claims 19Yearold at Baldy Road Crossing
A 19 year old Sandpoint youth Dwight D Howell on leave from the US Army died in a car train crash at Baldy Road crossing on the Burlington Northern line near Sandpoint. Richard L Dexter 18 of Sandpoint drove the 1956 Chevrolet with two passengers, Roy Gene Howell 20 not seriously injured and Dwight’s brother. The crash occurred at about 1 a m as Dexter’s car topped a rise and struck a box car. the train was moving under five mph and no crew saw the collision.
