Farmin's Second Addition residents heard assurances that changing zone from residential A to commercial will not raise property taxes. North Idaho Foods Inc. seeks a shopping center in blocks 20 through 2 with plans for a grocery store and other businesses.
The Sand Point City Council will meet Monday at City Hall to consider rezone proposals for east half of blocks 20 and 23 in Farmin’s Addition along Fourth and Fifth Streets. Also on the agenda are ads for the November election, committee reports on traffic safety and public works, and updates on the new city parking lot construction.
Sandpoint plans a larger two day rodeo with 3200 spectator capacity after installing portable stands and building permanent grandstands at the Bonner County Fairgrounds. Joe Kelsey reports 16 entries with potential to top 75 PRA contestants. purse tops $4000 with $1150 guaranteed. Events include bareback saddle bronc bull riding calf roping steer wrestling team roping and wild horse race. Bob Chambers returns as announcer and Rebbee Ellis the rodeo clown.
A Manson follower Lynette Fromme pointed a loaded 45 caliber pistol at President Ford from two feet away in the California Capitol area. Secret Service agent Larry Buendorf tackled her to the pavement as Ford ducked. Fromme, clad in red, was arrested and taken to police.
Governor Cecil D. Andrus accused the National Education Association of disseminating erroneous figures about Idaho funding for education. He challenged NEA and national magazines like Compact for misrepresenting per pupil expenditures and the state's education effort, urging caution to avoid disservice to supporters.
