Library Board Seeks One Million In State Aid
The Idaho State Library Board sought one million dollars in state aid for public libraries from the Legislature in 1972. Chair Marguerite Laughlin noted the request has been made for two years while the legislature has appropriated only one hundred thousand annually. Caldwell Public Library asked for all federal and state construction funds tied to a bond issue over three hundred thousand for a November vote. Helen Miller said Caldwell project has priority as funds free up. About seven thousand five hundred may be available this year after grants to McCall and Emmett are deducted, with one hundred fourteen thousand anticipated after July 1, 1972.

Idaho Supreme Court rules state must demand tax payment within legal period
The Idaho Supreme Court ruled the state must make a timely demand for inheritance tax payments or lose the right to collect. The decision voided a Second District ruling in a Tax Commission suit against Edward J. McCann executor of Raymond B. McCann’s estate. Raymond died May 16 1962 and probate began, with a June 14 1969 order for tax payment. The court said no five year action was filed, so collection was barred. Meanwhile Kootenai County Auditor Harold E. Peterson denied pressure to recall lawmakers, citing lack of legal opinion on recall jurisdiction.
