State Auditor Joe R. Williams warned Idaho agencies against questionable expense claims including wine, coffee hours, and office social events. He said such items, typically around twenty dollars, may now be scrutinized by the press and denied by his office.
Spokane police charged Jerry Lewis with first degree murder for the October 16 shooting death of Bon Marche credit manager Peggy Palmer during a robbery that nearly netted $8000. Lewis, 35, remained hospitalized after being shot by officers during the robbery and read the warrant once conscious.
Mayor Floyd Gray announces Idaho Surveying and Rating Bureau inspectors will survey all business school church and public buildings to assign fire insurance rates. Engineers graded city fire defenses to value fire protection and the current survey will apply those results to individual buildings. Inspections should take about two weeks with results due in about six weeks.
A Sandpoint man, Fred M. Williams Jr., 40, is in serious condition at Kootenai Memorial Hospital after a head-on collision on SH 200 at Kootenai Cutoff Road with Joseph O. Hammill, 50, of Kootenai, who is in satisfactory condition at Bonner General Hospital. State Police investigate. no citations issued. The 9:45 p.m. crash involved Williams eastbound and Hammill westbound.
