Registration deadlines loom for Bonner County voters

Electors must register by 8 p.m. October 27 for the November 2 general election. Precinct registration ended October 22. registration now at the Bonner County Clerk’s office. Absent ballot requests are due by October 26. ballots must be returned by 8 p.m. November 2. Voter eligibility includes U.S. citizenship and resident status, with 18 or older by election day. Office hours and home voting arrangements are listed by the county clerk.

Trend reveals area duck and goose numbers up in Sandpoint survey

In Bonner County, Ray Rogers reports a large mid season trend count near Sandpoint showing about 3 000 mallards 12 000 American widgeons 13 000 redheads 1 000 canvasbacks and several greenwing teal pintail and merganser plus 350 Canada geese. The survey covers from Long Bridge to Priest River mouth and notes many ducks rafted between the bridge and Dover sawmill. Waterfowl season runs Oct 2 through Jan 9 1977 with bag limits of two canvasbacks or redheads and one wood duck daily and seven total. geese season ends Jan 2 1977 with three daily and one Ross goose not to exceed.

Youth Arrested After High Speed Highway 2 Chase

Sandpoint police arrested a 17 year old Friday night for reckless driving after radar showed 103 mph eastbound on Highway 2. The youth slowed as a patrol car pursued at 11:35 p.m. but continued at high speed before his car stalled on the Kootenai Cutoff Road about 40 minutes later. He was jailed and later released on bond.

Deer Season Opens In Unit One On October 27

Boundary and northern Bonner County hunters prepare for opening day of deer season in Game Management Unit 1 on Wednesday October 27. The unit remains open to taking of either sex deer and bears of black or cinnamon color until May 31, 1977. Deer with a .22 caliber rimfire is unlawful. Elk hunting is closed this year.

Mills Cooperate In Lumber Study In Montana And Idaho

Four lumber mills join Forest Service in a cooperative study of lumber grade yields from Douglas fir ponderosa pine western red cedar and grand fir across northern Idaho and western Montana. Trees are measured logged tagged and tracked through mills to update appraisal data refine cubic foot conversions test tree grade equations and evaluate lumber and chip quality for timber sales and management.
