Idaho hheg Conservation adapts accelerated soil survey plan

At the Division 1 Fall Idaho Soil Conservation Districts meeting in Sandpoint, representatives from Bonner Boundary Kootenai Benewah and Shoshone counties heard from James Busch of the Idaho Association of Soil Conservation Districts. The group seeks legislative approval for an accelerated soil survey program and discusses sediment control and funding priorities for ongoing research and extension education. Creighton Gilbert reviewed SCS activities. Doyle Scott reported on the Soil Conservation Commission program. James Graves outlined the proposed survey, while Bob Noe spoke on Shoshone mining rehab and reforestation efforts.

Army Corps Engineer Selected to Lead North Pacific Division

Brigadier General Richard F McConnell will become Division Engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers North Pacific Division effective December 15. He is in line for promotion to Major General and will succeed Major General Kenneth T. Sawyer, who moves to Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics at Fort Monroe Virginia. Sawyer previously led the Seattle District from August 1967 to July 1970.

Oklahoma wheat farmer Ed Cleveland filed a 150 million-dollar federal suit alleging former Agriculture official Clarence Palmby and five grain firms conspired in selling wheat to the Soviet Union. Cleveland claims Palmby leaked advance notice after leaving the department and that the early sale caused about 50 million in losses to Oklahoma farmers.
