Roy Moe of Sandpoint suffered eye injuries in a Friday explosion at his Riverside Building office when a portable radio recorder battery burst. He heard a pop and saw a flashing fire as he opened a bulging battery area. Battery samples were sent to a laboratory for testing.
Humbert Humphrey said McGovern is gaining strength in the East but faces an uphill fight to win the presidency. He noted chances in California and warned the Watergate scandal could hurt politics and the Nixon administration.
In Pomeroy Washington a 5-year-old girl Katrina Ann Baker was dragged by a horse after becoming entangled in the reins while leading the animal on a Garfield County ranch. She died on arrival at Garfield Memorial Hospital. her brother Terry, 9, stopped the horse and freed her.
Sandpoint police gain a definite clue in the Civic Club Bazaar burglary at the Community Hall Friday night. An alert store owner and an artist’s drawing helped identify a suspect, who remains at large. About 700 to 1,000 dollars of mostly jewelry were stolen Friday night. A man in a suspicious looking vehicle was noted by Bob Ravadal of Alpine Sport Shop, whose license number was copied. The same person was described at the bazaar.
Vice President Spiro Agnew spoke to about 5000 at the College of Southern Idaho on a military strength theme. The crowd carried Kids for Nixon Idaho Spuds for Agnew and Four More Years for Agnew signs as Idaho Republican leaders and candidates met him at a Twin Falls reception. Jordan praised the Magic Valley as he recalled his earlier governor bid and supporters gathered with McClure Symms and Hansen.
