Washington Machinery opens new Sandpoint auto parts outlet
Grand opening Friday at 915 North Fifth Avenue marks the public debut of Washington Machinery in Sandpoint. Manager Harold Drinkard says the store will be open all day Friday October 22 and Saturday morning October 23 with free coffee and doughnuts. The new building sits north of the Trawler’s Motel, replacing nine years at the Cedar Street location west of the Spokane International tracks.

New Dairy Outlet Opens In Sandpoint
Ralph and Leona Crabb announce the R and L Dairy Store at Superior and the Dover Highway in Sandpoint. The franchised Milkway dealer opened Wednesday with dairy products hard ice cream breads pre packed sandwiches fruit and chocolate drinks. Drive up service will be available six days a week 11 am to 7 pm.

Blackfoot Superintendent Killed In State Highway Crash
Irwin T. Stoddard 52, longtime Blackfoot School District superintendent, died in a head on collision 34 miles south of Lemhi on State Highway 28 while steelhead fishing with three Blackfoot men. Murl McNabb 31 of Salmon drove the semi truck. Stoddard's party included Homer Easter Gene Berry and Sam Cuchiara, all reported in good condition. Bond set at 10000 for Dale F. Bender 22 arraigned on grand larceny in Bonner County Jail with courtappointed attorney Thomas Cooke. A second arrest Pat Hogan 15 involved in lakeshore cabin burglaries turned to Youth Rehabilitation authorities.

Case Dismissed Against Youth In Sandpoint
Charges of littering the public streets were dismissed against 16 year old Patrick Brian Keane after he accepted responsibility for future actions. The informal magistrate’s hearing cited Dr. J P Munson as accepting responsibility for the youth. No counsel represented Keane or the state.

Mullan Man Plans 60 Mile Run For Kidney Charity
Ken Smith 52 chief of the Mullan volunteer fire department will run 60 miles from Mullan to Coeur d Alene to raise funds for Mrs Eileen Whelan a mother of three who has lost both kidneys and relies on a kidney machine. The goal is to raise about 13000 with donors sought at $5 per mile and pledges already totaling 2500. Smith aims to start at 6 am and finish around 6 pm depending on sponsorship and fatigue.
