Fugitive Dale Bender Surrenders After Sheriff Talks
A Bonner County fugitive charged with grand larceny and burglaries at Cocolalla Lake surrendered in Sandpoint after a 20 minute phone conversation with Sheriff Robert Wilcox. Bender, 22, who had been AWOL in the Air Force, was arrested following a two state teletype alert and a Sunday raid that recovered stolen goods from his cabin and an abandoned mine shaft. He faces arraignment in Magistrates Court.

Sheriff reports most stolen items identified from raid
In the Valley area the suspect was believed armed with three handguns. The Sheriff said on Wednesday that after a final inventory of recovered stolen items from the raid on Bender's cabin hideout, over 90 percent have been identified. The accused man’s automobile has been taken into protective custody by the Bonner County Sheriff’s office.

Henry C. Russell 19 of Pomeroy Washington is free on 2000 bond after being charged with involuntary manslaughter in two traffic deaths near Coeur d Alene Idaho. Victims include Mr and Mrs Glen F Trefren of Hope Idaho. Russell posted bond Tuesday and was released.
