Court Rules For Bonner County Schools In Bargaining Fight

District Judge Dar Cogswell ruled in favor of the Bonner County School District No. 82 in a suit filed by the Bonner County Education Association BCEA seeking a procedural bargaining agreement. The decision says the remedy lies with the Idaho legislature and notes no statutory authority to compel compulsory negotiation without a signed agreement. The order assigns BCEA attorney fees to the union.

City Ordered to Sign Firefighters Contract in Sandpoint

District Judge Dav Cogswell ruled in favor of Local 2317 of the International Firefighters of America and ordered Sandpoint to sign a union contract with the city by 5 p.m. next Tuesday following yesterday's trial. The union sought negotiations since January, a February 28 meeting produced agreement, but a council motion to sign failed for lack of a second amid opposition to a city employee union.

Suit Seeks Water Hookup for Mulch Home Near Sandpoint

Leroy and Karen Mulch sue the City of Sandpoint in District Court seeking a Writ of Mandamus to force water hookup for their Powder Point residence east of Kootenai. They seek $30,000 mental anguish damages and up to $60,000 additional for the value of improvements if the writ is denied.

Police Recover Items In Multiple Larcenies In Sandpoint

Sandpoint police recovered about $2000 worth of items stolen in several larcenies over months. Items include a $400 transmission from Alpine Motors and four tires from Herman's Automotive Center, plus a dictaphone, knife throwing set, tape deck, and tapes. Two juveniles released to parents. one juvenile also linked to Alpine burglary, automotive center theft, and other incidents. Frank Lee Probert, 18, charged with first degree burglary and questioned in Alpine and automotive center cases.

Sand Point Planning Commission Backs Comprehensive Growth Plan

Acting on a recommendation from 34 citizen volunteers the Sand Point Planning and Zoning Commission voted to ask the city council to adopt a comprehensive growth plan and require committee review of all future zoning ordinances. The panel cited four prior meetings with committee chairs noting broad support for the plan and sought changes mostly in traffic and arterial design. The commission will present its recommendation at the next council meeting on October 14, with Veterns Day observance shifting the usual schedule to October 13.
