Drilling Rig Struck Power Line Hurting Two in Sagle
A Sandpoint well driller Bob Pitts suffered severe burns to his hand and foot when his 42 foot rig struck a 12 000 volt Pacific Power and Light line near Sagle School. His son Dak Pitts had minor burns and was treated and released. The accident occurred about 7 am as the rig was nine feet from the 21 foot line.

Idaho Public Utilities Commission approves a pass through increase for Washington Water Power Co to all Idaho customers of 2.008 cents per therm aimed at offsetting higher gas supplier costs. A typical 150 therm bill climbs about 3.01 dollars to 38.98 dollars. two industrial customers see minor increases while residential customers pay less on other adjustments. The commission rejects two utility proposals and sets credit calculations based on 1976-77 historic sales instead of projected demand.

Boise Idaho will shift investment of idle liquor funds from the general account to the liquor account and direct treasury deposits. State Treasurer Marjorie Ruth Moon says the overhaul, approved after an attorney general opinion, will speed access to funds and boost interest for public schools and local taxing units. Nearly 16 million in September interest went to the liquor account, with the general account losing that amount.

Skiers Clinic Opens Preseason Training At Schweitzer
Schweitzer Alpine Racing Team starts a pre-season conditioning clinic for all skiers tonight at 5 pm meeting at the Cox Building lot across from Sandpoint Motors. Sessions run Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays with Randy Green Jim Meyers and Bruce Nelson directing. Equipment includes outdoor clothes ski poles and a bicycle. Non member fee is 10 dollars donated to the racing school.

Sandpoint Man Loses Hand in Avery Hunting Accident
A 64-year-old Sandpoint man, Everett Hammons, lost his hand on Breezy Saddle Road near Avery during a hunting trip. He was riding in a Ford pickup with his nephew Lee Hammons when a horse in the vehicle lunged, became stuck, and a come-along winch entangled his wrist, severing the hand. He was taken first to Caer then to Renewah General Hospital in St. Maries.

Idaho State Draft Horse Show Opens With Parade in Sandpoint
More than 200 entries are expected for Idaho's first state draft horse show opening with a downtown Sandpoint parade. The event runs Thursday to Saturday at the Bonner County fairgrounds with free public judging. Performances Friday and Saturday evenings and Saturday afternoon. Tickets $1.50 at the gate. Presbyterian Women's Association sponsors a food booth serving meals and snacks from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. A complete schedule of show events follows.
