Insurance Fire Inspection Planned for Sandpoint Downtown
A 25 member team of insurance safety engineers will conduct a public relations fire inspection in Sandpoint downtown Oct 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. The walk through sections with white or red lab coats will depart from the fire station and focus on hazards without affecting policies or rates. Fire Prevention Week runs Oct 9–15 and inspections rotate between Washington and Idaho towns.

Nickoling Petersen Turns 98 At Sandpoint Manor Birthday
Nickoling Petersen celebrated her 98th birthday with a party at Sandpoint Manor Convalescent Center. Relatives from Chicago attended and she was honored at a 2 to 4 p.m. reception. Born in Norway and arriving in 1912, she lived in Samuels for 27 years before moving to Sandpoint Manor. She is the oldest member of First Lutheran Church and has 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Parade Starts Horse Show Parade Sparks Sandpoint Pageant
Several hundred Sandpoint residents joined a noon parade featuring Potters Distillery Clydesdales and three other draft teams along Pine Street First Avenue and Cedar Street. The event opened four days of the Idaho State Draft Horse International at Bonner County Fairgrounds with fairground shows including judging hayrides and performances each day through Saturday.

Pitts Listed In Serious Condition After Drilling Accident
Bob Pitts, a Sandpoint veil driller, is in serious but stable condition at Sacred Heart Hospital burn center in Spokane with third degree burns on his right hand and left foot. Doctors monitor for infection as he and his son Dale were near the Sagle School well when a 42 foot rig cable struck an overhead line. Dale was treated and released at Bonner County Hospital for minor burns.

Car Truck Collision Near Warehouse Market Injures Driver
A 1972 Ford Station Wagon driven by Joseph J. Erler collided with a 1971 Dodge Fuel truck driven by Peter N. Ferrick on U S 95 near the Warehouse Market. Erler suffered cuts and bruises and was treated at Bonner County General Hospital. Damage to the fuel truck was estimated at 400 dollars.
