U S Records Largest Trade Deficit Tied to Dock Strikes

The United States posted a $3.1 billion foreign trade deficit in October the highest on record as exports fell to 9.2 billion and imports reached 12.3 billion. Officials cited East and Gulf Coast longshoremen strikes as the main cause while noting October began the 17th straight month of deficits and a year total likely near 30 billion.

Stream Flow Petition Launched in Idaho to vote on minimum flows

Boise UPI report notes a petition drive to place the Hydropower Protection and Water Conservation Act on the 1978 Idaho ballot. Organizers aim to collect 10,000 of 26,000 signatures by mid January to grant voters a say on base flows for unappropriated water and to empower the Idaho Water Resource Board to designate additional streams protections while preserving existing water rights. Woman Killed in Two Vehicle Collision on Highway 7

Debra J. Hopper 18 of Chattaroy Wash died when her southbound Volkswagen skidded on slick road conditions, entering the northbound lane and was struck by a northbound pickup driven by Bruce Garber of Spokane. Garber and his family were treated and released after the crash.

Supreme Court lets stand ruling on age discrimination in grounding pilot

The Supreme Court without comment declined McDonnell Douglas’s appeal in the Houghton case. Phillip Houghton, a 52-year-old test pilot, sued after being grounded and later fired over age related concerns. The circuit court previously ordered back pay and reinstatement if he remained physically capable.

Large Southwest Idaho Earthquake Felt Across Region

A 4.5 magnitude quake near Cascade Idaho rattled a 3000 square mile area in southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon. Occurring at 2 26 a m MST it caused little damage though residents reported beds shaking and objects moved, with accounts from Ontario Oregon and Cascade residents and Gem County Idaho officials noting the effects.
