Timber Sale Not Bidded in Idaho Reoffer Planned
No bids were received for 275 thousand board feet of timber offered by the State of Idaho on November 24, 1970. Richard Reid, area supervisor for the Idaho Department of Public Lands at Coolin, reported the burned timber would die within a year, with white pine dominating and minor amounts of grand fir, hemlock, and cedar. Appraised value was 4966.25 dollars. The sale may be reoffered if interest develops.

Boise Chosen For Big Sky Headquarters
Boise was selected as the headquarters for the Big Sky Athletic Conference. John Boning was appointed as the conference commissioner. The eight member presidents met in Boise and chose the Gem State capital over Salt Lake City for the offices. University of Idaho President Ernest Hartung cited Boise’s central location and media access. Roning, succeeding Jack Friel, will depart his Utah State coaching role next summer.

Planning Commission Holds Lively Sandpoint Meeting
Spectators filled the Bonner County Planning Commission session in Sandpoint as J Wright Baylor withdrew a 40 acre camping and trailer project near Pend Oreille River citing neighbor concerns. Objections centered on water quality noise boat traffic and waste. Baylor praised neighbor relations and left the case. The panel granted partial approval to Whiskeyjack complex on Pend Oreille Lake and endorsed several Garfield Bay and Priest River residential developments along with final approval for Shadow Mountain Valley.

Forest ranger Shackelford to attend U.S. Agriculture seminar

Shackelford, district ranger of the Clark Fork Ranger District Kaniksu National Forest, is selected to attend the U S Department of Agriculture Seminar in Middle Management in Front Royal Virginia from November 29 to December 4.
