Boise Library Conference Opens With Governor Remarks
Idaho librarians trustees and citizens attend the Governor Conference on Libraries in Boise. The event at Rodeway includes 9 a.m. registration and 9:30 a.m. welcomes by Governor Don Samuelson. About 200 people are expected, with sessions led by Dr. Jefferson Eastmond on expanding library use. A 3:30 p.m. dedication of the Library and Archives building follows adjournment.

FFA Contest Winners Listed Sandpoint Chapter Dominates
The Sandpoint FFA chapter excelled in the November 14 contests in crops meats and farm mechanics. Sandpoint placed first in farm mechanics and third in crops and meats. High point members included Andy Allard Dan Thacker Ray Shatsa Rick Jagman Earl Mauirer Sam Branning Dan Thacker Rick Jasman Barry Johnson Kendrick Lapwai led standings behind Sandpoint in various divisions.

Andrus appointive search panel meets in Boise
Governor elect Cecil Andrus told a talent search committee in Boise that the group should identify the best man or woman for Idaho's appointive jobs. About 50 residents from across the state attended at the Rodeway Inn as Andrus said he will make the final decisions but will consider the committee's suggestions. AFL-CIO Idaho president Robert MacFarlane co-chaired and noted Andrus offered few promises during the campaign.

Paint Vandals Strike Sandpoint Cars and Signs
Sandpoint police investigate four paint spray incidents over the weekend. Vehicles including Bud Martins car and Pat McDowell’s car were targeted with black enamel on exteriors along Fourth and Lake Streets and at 130 N Third Street. A stop sign at Fourth and Lake Streets and windows at Dr Petersons office were vandalized. Mrs Art Surby reported her white sedan sprayed with a four letter word. The probe continues.

Prisoner to be moved to Idaho Hospital South for evaluation
Bonner County Sheriff Robert H. Wilcox says Chief Deputy and another man will escort maximum security prisoner John Wesley Redden to Idaho Hospital South at Blackfoot for 60 days of testing on a district court order. Redden faces charges of attempted escape and assault with a dangerous weapon after an earlier jail attack.

Store Break-In at Western Auto in Sandpoint
Sandpoint police report a Friday night break in at the Western Auto Store. Thieves forced the back door with a round steel bar and stole about a dozen boxes of .22 calibre ammo and two pairs of canvas gloves. Officer Art Bour assa noted the door was struck at least twice. a 1 1/2 inch diameter steel bar was left at the scene. The shop is owned by William Lutzke.

Hazardous driving warning with occasional snow and freezing rain today. Tonight and Tuesday bring a few snow showers, with temps near 25 today, 15 at night, and 30 tomorrow. Stores Plan Later Hours for December Downtown Sandpoint
Downtown Sandpoint stores will stay open every evening except Sunday starting December 14 and keep late hours on the three Fridays before, beginning Friday, November 27. The Retail Merchants Committee approved the plan at last week’s meeting. A city Christmas tree is planned for the Cedar Street bridge town end.
