Sandpoint approves five percent city employee raise

City Council granted a 5 percent across the board pay hike retroactive to November 1 and planned a 5 percent merit raise for department heads starting January 1 1978. The council also set hearings on a city county impact area expansion and ordered a salary schedule brief by December 2 while addressing budget and tax revenue considerations.

Carter Weeps as Tear Gas Clouds White House Protest

Plane Crash Victims Tentatively Identified Near Red Deer

Pend Oreille County Sheriff Pete Giles tentatively identifies four victims of a fiery weekend Cessna 172 crash near Mount Spokane as residents of Red Deer Alberta. Names include pilot George Sisko and his wife Joanne 49, Herbert Hay 37 and wife Doris 34. Pathologists in Spokane to confirm identities.

Idaho Counties Balk At Uniform Valuation Plan

Idaho counties oppose a uniform computerized property tax valuation system citing cost and implementation concerns. The Legislative Interim Tax Committee heard from Leo Barnecut and others that counties are wary yet slowly warming to the plan as a draft on costs and required appropriations is promised within two weeks.

Sandpoint Recycling Center Opening Delayed

The Sandpoint recycling center opening is postponed as a trailer from Specialty Insulation Co of Spokane has not arrived. Once delivered, the trailer will operate at the Sandpoint Senior Citizens Center collecting aluminum cans and newspapers for four counties, with funds supporting senior groups.
