Sandpoint annexation hearing draws residents to city limits

Opposition to annexing 600 acres on Sandpoint's west side continues as residents from inside and outside the city push back at a 10 a.m. public hearing. The Planning and Zoning commission will craft a recommendation for the November 17 council meeting, outlining areas favored or opposed for annexation and noting fire protection and hydrant plans tied to potential inclusion.

Israeli Jets Hit Southern Lebanon Refugee Camp, Missile Site

Idaho pays last respects to Sen. Murphy known as Pop Murphy

Friends and dignitaries from Idaho gathered in Wallace to honor Art Murphy 79 Mullan former 29 year legislator and Senate minority leader who died of cancer. Gov. Evans called him a great servant of the people and announced the Arthur P Murphy Living Memorial Fund at the University of Idaho for political science student aid. Cremation will occur in Spokane.

Long Bridge raises speed limit to 55 mph

Jack Ross Idaho Highways district supervisor announced Sandpoint Long Bridge speed limit increased from 35 to 55 mph after summer repairs. He cited bridge safety and accident patterns, noting authority to change without a Transportation Board vote if conditions warranted. Idaho State Patrolman Harvey Biffle supported the move saying it improves traffic flow and that most incidents occur near bridge entrances and curves.

Gov John V Evans spoke at Pocatello American Legion Veterans Day Services urging Idahoans to answer the call to service. He, a World War II veteran, urged citizens to commit to honesty and openness in daily life and government and to integrate veterans into civilian life for a stronger state and nation.
