Deputy Survives Jail Break Attempt in Bonner County

Bonner County Deputy Dale Fields escaped serious harm after a prisoner, John Wesley Redden, 57, attacked him with an iron bar during an escape attempt. Fields subdued Redden with a portable extinguisher then forcefully restrained him, sending for help as both men were wounded. Redden, held on prior misconduct, is in maximum security as prosecutors review the case. no charges filed yet.

Sandpoint Council Advances Dredge Plan and Annexation Steps

The Sandpoint city council approved dredging Sand Creek in front of boat ramps to ease low water traffic, accepted Archie Yager’s resignation from the Airport Board effective October 15, 1970, and reviewed water sewer progress. The panel also OK’d the Schweitzer Addition preliminary plat, 22 beer license renewals, flood lighting at the Community Hall, and planned a regional meeting with county and state officials on area issues.
