Sunshine Mine Fire Stopped
Officials at the Sunshine mine believe the fire, which started May 2, has been stopped. Marvin C. Chase, vice president and general manager, said crews working around the clock halted the spread. The blaze occurred while 201 men were underground. 108 escaped, two were rescued later, and 91 others were accounted for by May 11 after a nine day search.

A male puppy with black fur brown legs and white markings on the neck was picked up by the Sandpoint Pound Master on North Boyer. The dog has no tag and owners must contact the Pound Master or City Hall by Thursday May 25 at 4 p.m. to claim him.
