Universal Life Festival Aims to Curb Large Colorado Gathering

Gov Vanderhoof and law enforcement plan actions to control a July religious festival in Rocky Mountain National Park. Estimates of attendees range from 25 000 to 140 000 at the University Life Church event planned near Grand Lake, with concerns of drug activity and past Idaho incidents. Two Diptheria Cases Found in Boise Idaho

A post mortem shows a 52 year old Boise man died May 11 from diptheria, Idaho reports the first death from the disease since 1960. A sixth grader at Taft Elementary is the second case and preventive vaccines and throat cultures will be conducted for Taft’s fifth and sixth graders today.

Vandal Boosters Kickoff in Sandpoint May 25

University of Idaho athletic staff will travel to Sandpoint on Thursday May 25 for the start of the 1972 Vandal Booster campaign. Attending are Don Robbins Wayne Anderson Ed Troxel John Smith and Ed Knecht plus other staff. An afternoon of golf with local boosters follows a noon arrival.

Public health crowd control plan cited by Vanderhoof

Vanderhoof warned about potential excessive crowds this summer that could threaten public health and safety. He said officers will prevent unlawful gatherings, desecration of the land, and violations of health regulations and other laws.

Fire Run by Northside Fire District at Harriet Clark home

Northside Fire Protective District responded Tuesday at 11 20 a m to Harriet Clark’s residence north of Kootenai. Fire Chief Bob Lyons said the fire was confined to about one foot on the floor and likely started when an item fell from the stove. Firefighters halted the blaze before it spread.

Memorial Day store closures announced in Sandpoint

Jim Tinsman of the Sandpoint Merchants Committee says most retail stores will close Monday May 29 for Memorial Day. Bi Rite drug will stay open 10 am to 2 pm while Inks Thrift M and J Food City IGA and Price Rite Meats remain partly open. Peter Thompson notes Sandpoint Daily Bee will not publish and offices close all day.

Candidacy Filing Dates Set for County and Precinct Posts

Declarations of candidacy may be filed June 1 through June 7 at 5 p.m. Doris L. Kenney, County Clerk, notes no filings on June 3 or 4. Mail postmarks after 5 p.m. June 7 will not be accepted. County office or precinct committeeman filings require 5 to 10 electors signatures and fees vary by position. Legislature and judicial candidates file with the Secretary of State in Boise.
