City Recreation Committee weighs offering the old Fairgrounds Commercial Building to Sandpoint youth for a Center. Youth plan supervision by adults, hours 3 pm to 10 pm weekdays and noon to midnight weekends, with repairs supervised by a contractor and operating costs via small contributions.

Bonner County Worker Dies In Loader Accident
Bonner County employee Lewis Bud Deitzel 62 of Priest River died Monday when a ten ton loader overturned on Shingle Mill Hill Peninsula Road. Sheriff Bob Wilcox said he lost control while descending too fast and tried to drop the bucket to slow, but the vehicle rolled and trapped him. Investigator Bob Spohn of Priest River Police described the scene.

Merchants Discuss Check Alert System and Crazy Days
The Sandpoint Merchants Association convened at Pastime to review the Check Alert System. Members noted lack of awareness among employees about procedures in the employer's absence and urged police familiarity with merchants. The group considered a $5 annual fee for non Cham ber members joining the Check Alert System and debated closing First Avenue for Crazy Days but kept it open due to traffic. They also planned at least $150 for Crazy Days promotion in local and Canadian papers.
