State Tax Commission Sets Bonner County Hearing

Public meeting for all Bonner County taxpayers set for Wednesday June 9 at 8 p m in the Sandpoint Junior High School Auditorium. Donald Loveland chair of the State Tax Commission will attend to answer questions on property assessments and related matters. County officials and district trustees invited. Taxpayers Protective Association and Bonner County Shoreline Property Owners and Taxpayers Association handle arrangements.

Murder Suspect Takes Own Life in Ada County Jail

Terry Potter, 23, who faced first degree murder charges in Boise, hanged himself in the Ada County jail while awaiting trial. His cellmates found him in the shower at 6:30 a.m., with the coroner listing the time of death around 2 a.m. Authorities reported no foul play. Potter had shot two men, Robert Welker and James Riplinger, on March 20 in Boise and had turned himself in the day after the shootings.

Burglars Nab $192 From Selkirk Press and Stationery

Burglars stole $192 in cash from Selkirk Press and Stationery at Second and Cedar in Sandpoint. The break in happened between 5 45 p m May 19 and 8 30 a m May 20 with no evidence of forced entry. Police continue the investigation.

South Dakotan Denies Extradition On Check Charges

Harry T Struve of Sioux Falls, SD, refused extradition in a Bonner County hearing on charges of issuing an insufficient fund check. He is held on $1,000 bond after a $146 motel check with a closed account. If not extradited within 30 days, he will be released unless SD refiles the charge.

Sandpoint students form Bill Hoffman Fund for hearing aid

Sandpoint Junior High students create the Bill Hoffman Fund to raise money for a new hearing aid for Bill Hoffman who is hearing impaired. The fund opened with a $125 donation from the student treasury and is hosted at Idaho First National Bank in Sandpoint. Don Green proposed a used aid to be evaluated for possible fitting and use.
