Ford Justifies Mayaguez Rescue and Cambodia Action
The article argues President Ford acted correctly in sending troops to Cambodia to rescue the Mayaguez crew, claiming War Powers Act concerns are muted by victory. Defense Secretary Schlesinger defends the response as a stand for freedom of the seas while acknowledging lives lost and potential future fallout. Public and congressional support is noted as likely, amid calls for accountability and reflection on Vietnam-era policies.
