Washington Elementary invites parents of upcoming first graders for preregistration on Friday May 15 from 2 00 to 3 30 pm in 1970 71 year. Parents bring the child to first grade rooms 145 pm then attend a brief program in the lunchroom before registering. Birth proof required showing birth before October 15 1964.
The mayor of Sandpoint proclaims a city Poppy Week to honor veterans and support disabled and needy veterans, widows, and orphans through Buddy Poppy sales. He urges citizens to wear and donate, noting the funds aid those harmed by military service and recognize sacrifices for freedom.
In Nancy France 44 year old workman Guy Batelier reportedly drowned after falling headfirst into a bucket of water. Neighbors reported he had not been seen for three days and police believe excessive wine at dinner caused him to lose balance while removing his shoes.
About 1,000 Ohio National Guard troops were sent to Athens at Governor Rhodes request after a brick throwing demonstration by 300 Ohio University students. Troops, armed with live ammo, were not deployed to the campus. This marked the first time guards were moved into a college town since Kent State.
