Southside District Plans Feasibility Study For Sewer Water System

Southside Sewer and Water District weighs a 566000 project to serve 350 homes over 3.5 miles. Chairman Allen Cochran says negotiations with Idaho Fish and Game aim to secure lagoon land and water rights, with a hoped 50 percent grant from state and federal sources. An election is planned in early June requiring two-thirds district approval. all residents 18 and over may vote.

Police protest at county court and university denounces pay

About eighty Prince Georges police and their families demonstrated outside the county courthouse as budget hearings were held at University of Maryland. They complained starting pay of eight thousand six hundred fifty three dollars plus only one thousand one hundred dollars over the poverty level.

State Board Rejects Informal Mining Agreement in Sherlock Creek

The State Land Board refused an informal permit for mining on Sherlock Creek north Idaho while a lawsuit plays out. Gov. Andrus cited opposition to destructive operations. The three Montana applicants withdrew after federal jurisdiction questions and a state injunction stands. Barry Marcus said exploratory work was hoped for under act requirements.

Sunshine mine ends rescue with last 40 bodies recovered

Rescue workers retrieved the final bodies from the Sunshine silver mine after a fire killed 91 miners. Only two survived, 106 escaped, as officials planned investigations of the mine and 21 nearby metal mines to prevent a repeat disaster.

165000 Chevron Station Planned

Allen Pinky Cochran announces a 165000 Chevron station project at Fifth and Cedar in Sandpoint Idaho. The new all metal and glass station will include auto services, landscaping, sewage facilities, rest areas, a central vacuum system, piped music, dual pumps per island, a marine gas mixer, and a 16 foot revolving Chevron Hallmark sign. Cochran, a 12 year veteran of Cochran's Chevron and former Standard Oil manager, leads the venture with Standard Oil arrangement to streamline the corner for large trucks.
