Andrus Sees Sunshine Mine Rescue Near End

Gov Cecil D Andrus said the Sunshine Mine rescue effort could be resolved today as survivors are confirmed. Miners Tom Wilkinson and Ron Flory both 29 were found alive on the 4,800‑foot level after a week underground, while 47 dead and 44 missing were reported as night operations continued. Andrus pressed for federal disaster status to aid families with financial relief and declared ongoing talks with President Nixon.

Public Chamber Meeting on Williams Steiger Health Act

Arena Fund Plans Dance

The Bonner County Arena Fund Association will meet May 19 at 8 p.m. in the Washington Water Power Building to finalize plans for a benefit dance on June 3. Tickets cost one half beef. donations are $1 each. Youth 17 and under admitted free. A flea market will be among the activities.
