Andersen Named Supervisor of Superior National Forest
Harold E. Andersen of Forest supervises the Kaniksu National Forest and is appointed to lead the three million acre Superior National Forest in northern Minnesota. The change, effective June 13, follows Craig W. Rupp’s reassignment to Washington DC. Andersen brings extensive wilderness and forestry experience and has earned multiple degrees and awards.

Thama Rocks Progress Slow
The 3.5 mile Thama Rocks project on U S 2 and SH 200 east of Priest River was nearly complete last November with dedication and traffic opening. A January slide from low water runoff prompted changes including lowering the grade, line shifts, a counter weight berm, and interceptor drains above the highway to intercept groundwater. Murphy Bros. is the prime contractor for the grading work.

Man Dies Here While Fishing
Spokane man Marvin P. Skaer aged 63 died Friday afternoon while fishing between Whiskey Rock and Granite Point. Eyewitnesses said he appeared to have died before his small boat struck rocks around 3 p.m. Cause of death listed as accidental. Body taken to Yates Funeral Home Coeur d Alene after coroner’s inquiry.

Youth Hospitalized After Boise Cycle Car Crash
A 19 year old motorcyclist, Rodney Overmyer, was hospitalized in satisfactory condition at St. Luke's after a Ford Amity Road collision with Virginia Ingraham, 50, as they searched for an address west of Boise. Overmyer swerved left to avoid Ingraham and struck the left taillight, breaking his right leg and spinning the bike. The Idaho State Police investigated.

Weekend accidents mar crosses US 95 at Cocolalla area
Two non injury crashes disrupted weekend traffic on US 95 near Cocolalla. Ronald Norton of Seattle skid into a roadside ditch while pulling a trailer with a Funny Car after brakes locked. A second crash near the Cocolalla Store involved Jacob Becker and Dora Bandelin, with a red sedan crossing the center line and leaving the scene.
