Kamloops Kokanee Week Prizes Honored at Eagles Lodge

Kamloops and Kokanee Week concluded with prize awards and the Red Hat Dance at the Eagles Lodge. A J Mask of Kootenai won for the largest Kamloop weighing 25 lb 14 oz, earning a trophy and 100 in K and K cash certificates. Peggy Keister of Star Route Sandpoint won the Total Weight Estimating Derby, with a lakefront lot donated for the prize and title insurance.

Fire rekindles at Sunshine mine killing and trapping men

Rescue efforts at the Sunshine silver mine near Idaho continued as a fire erupted again, reducing hopes for survivors among 58 trapped miners. Crews attempted lower hoist access and a capsule drop while power and air supply challenges persisted, with 47 missing initially and later 11 more added to the list.

Ventilation Deadly In Fire At Kellogg Mine

In Kellogg Idaho a Sunshine Mine fire has burned since last Tuesday leaving at least 35 workers dead and 58 missing. An official notes the ventilation system circulating air through over 100 miles of tunnels spread deadly carbon monoxide gas and smoke, and regrets being too efficient.

Alibi Hosts K and K Visitors on Barge Fishing Tour

The Alibi owned by George Russell hosted visiting sportscasters and writers on Saturday. Crew included Ken Boehm Dell Brown Ken Beardoin Gary Pietsch Jack McDonald Paul Diefenbach and Russell. Several fish were weighed in by locals while over $2 000 in prizes were awarded at a later banquet.

Fire destroys mill on Kootenai Cut-Off Road

The shake mill owned by Dave Lewis on the Kootenai Cut-Off Road burned Friday afternoon. Bob Lyons of the Northside Fire Association said the fire started from a burner beneath the mill floor. The mill was beyond saving within ten minutes and completely destroyed within twenty. Firefighters saved about $1,000 in shake bolts.
