A local author, Mrs. Ellen L. Brooks of Star Route Sandpoint, releases My Picture of Idaho and Other Poems. The 32 page book includes photographs by Brooks and one by Matt Schmitt. Pend Oreille Printers printed 1000 copies.
Idaho Wheat Commission and Idaho State Wheat Growers Association officials Howe and Bonners Ferry join a three day Washington visit to rally urban Congressmen for a new Farm Bill. The trip includes a Congressional Breakfast on March 11 as direct discussions with city lawmakers begin.
General Telephone will start a leave word system March 1 changing who dials back. The called party uses a leave word operator and a new call back number code for most calls, speeding up completion and reducing operator steps.
Partly cloudy through Friday with night and morning fog patches. Precipitation chance remains at ten percent. Daytime highs reach 35 degrees and nights cool to 15 degrees.
Nearly 1,000 Eastern Washington State college students marched in sub-freezing weather to support coaches in a dispute over black athletes saluting the National Anthem. The protest centered on a code banning political expressions on the athletic field and followed a rally at the administration building with President Emerson C. Shuck.
Bonner County Sheriff Bob Wilcox says two deputies remain to be scheduled for academy training with 75 percent of costs refunded by state and federal government. He will attend a three day Idaho Chiefs and Sheriffs course March 11 to 13 at the University of Idaho to aid budgeting and records management. Deputy Jerry James has been accepted by Idaho State University at Pocatello for basic recruit training, a one month course covering all phases of law enforcement and public relations. Deputy James will attend the academy March 2 to 27.
Mrs. Jerry Samoiloff reported six dogs running loose in Woodland Hills. LA Department of Animal Regulation sent an officer who took the dogs into custody for leash law violations. One poodle named Skippy was later claimed by its owner Tuesday night.
