Sandpoint Bulldogs Upset Coeur d Alene in Regional Showdown

In Moscow last night the Sandpoint Bulldogs shocked top seed Coeur d Alene 66 to 60 to earn a trip to the state tournament in Boise. Bruce Carter Randy James led scoring for Sandpoint while Dick Shafer top scored for the Vikings. James was ejected late in the third quarter.

Four Game Violators Penalized by Justice Wagner

Thompson Falls Sanders County Ledger reports four game law violators were sentenced by Justice Gilbert Wagner. Art Schimmel of Clark Fork received a six month suspended sentence and 16 month hunting-privilege revocation for transporting an illegal deer, bringing his total revocation to four years after two prior convictions. A 17 year old Libby youth forfeited hunting privileges for one year for tagging an elk killed by his father.

Scout Executive to speak on fur trail route to National Historic Trail

Ira J. Hill of the Panhandle Council spoke to Spirit Lake Lions Club last night on establishing the David Thompson Trail section from Rathdrum to Laclede as a National Historic Trail. Boy Scouts sponsor the project to preserve the old fur trade mail route.

Juvenile suspects tied to string of county burglaries

About ten young men and a woman were arrested in Boundary County on a spree of break ins and robberies. Hearings planned today as county handles prosecutions with sheriff's deputies city police Border Patrol and Conservation officers assisting.

Kiwanis Group Attends Coeur d Alene Meeting

Ralph Wales reports a Kiwanis group traveled to Coeur d Alene last Wednesday for the local club meeting. Jackie Brockway, candidate for Miss Sandpoint, joined with her mother Mrs Jim Brockway, Mrs Larry Stevens, four Kiwanis members, and others. Brockway welcomed the club’s support and expressed happiness with the sponsorship. Wales added the group invited Brockway to the Bonners Ferry Kiwanis luncheon on March 9.

The Sandpoint Lions Club will host an orientation for prospective Leo Club members on Monday March 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pastime Panhandle Room. Dale Pelton says Leos are ages 15 to 20 and Spokane Community College Leo members will explain club workings.
