Potlatch to Close Bilko Sawmill in May
Potlatch Forest Inc will close its Bilko Sawmill when logs run out, likely by May 1. Roger C. Carlson, North Unit Wood Products Division manager, cites reduced public timber supply as the main reason. The company will seek other employment for 14 affected workers.
Ed Budget May Limit Enrollment
Idaho faces possible enrollment limits at its colleges if the legislature cuts the proposed 32 million dollar request. State Board of Education President Joe McCollum and University of Idaho President Ernest W. Hartung warned that without adequate funding the open door policy could not be sustained and limited enrollment may be considered once the budget is finalized.

Logger's Son Saves Family From Idaho House Fire
In STATIES Idaho a nine year old logger's son saved his younger brother and sister from a blaze that destroyed the family home. His ten year old sister went for help while two other children were away. Firefighters recovered only a chainsaw on the porch. The fire was blamed on faulty wiring with the mother at a scout meeting and the father at work.

Pickets Force Diamond Mills to Close in West
Informational picketers from Diamond National Plywood in Red Bluff California posted signs at Diamond's Newport Mill in Sandpoint Idaho causing workers to stay off the line and shut the mill. Diamond's International mill in Coeur d Alene also closed after workers refused to cross Red Bluff pickets. Bruce Colwell said three visitors joined to dramatize a three week old strike. He noted legally employees could cross but chose sympathy over crossing.

Hair Length Rule Sparks Idaho Education Discrimination Case
Idaho Human Rights Commission appeals a Seventh District Court ruling limiting the Anti-Discrimination Act to employment. The case challenges if schools may enforce hair length rules that target male students. Bonneville School District 93 cited for violating the act.
