A one truck accident occurred around 9 25 a m Tuesday at the intersection of U S 95 and the Kootenai Cut-Off when Wendall Ward of Sandpoint westbound could not stop at the posted sign. The truck crossed the highway and ended on its side in a ditch. damage was estimated at 1000 dollars and Ward was not injured.
Elmer Zelinski notified Bonner County sheriff's deputies Tuesday that unknown persons removed one side of his root cellar roof along with roof joints and side-wall timbers. Damage was estimated between 2500 and 5000 dollars, including labor.
Dennis E. Marsh 32 of Sagle was arrested on a warrant charging second degree burglary in the Diamond International Corp theft in Priest River. Marsh is held in Bonner County Jail on 1500 bond.
Area residents should expect variably cloudy skies and windy periods with a chance of mountain showers today. Fair weather is forecast for Thursday with highs in the 70s to low 80s and overnight lows in the 40s.
Four men, including three former Kootenai County Sheriff’s Deputies John Ferguson Hayden Lake age 34 Robert Hill 26 and Terry Morgen 23 all pleaded innocent to raping a 16 year old Athol woman three years ago Pat McCoy Athol an employee at the restaurant where the woman worked also charged Earl Weinan another former deputy pleaded innocent to accessory to rape for not reporting the alleged crime.
Misunderstanding over Public Works requirements delays bids for a new Panhandle Health District office in Sandpoint. Northern States Construction Services was the low bidder but a subcontractor lacked a license, prompting a rebid and local contractor preference. Completion is planned for December with a revised call for bids expected in July.
A 30-vehicle caravan of foreign diplomats and American businesspeople camped at Farragut State Park in Idaho for a two week Western tour. The trip, part of a State Department endorsed program, aims to introduce leaders to American life ahead of a world food conference in Minnesota.
