Bonner County Sets Hardship Tax Exemption Hearings

Bonner County Commissioners schedule hardship exemption hearings for June 3 and July 1 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. in the county courthouse conference room. The hearings evaluate eligibility for one year to reduce or remove real or personal property taxes. Applicants may file at the Assessor’s Office, with forms quick to complete if income data from the last three years is ready.

Brush Fire Controlled In Hope A City Fire

A small brush fire in Hope A quickly spread on Saturday before six local volunteers contained it. Mayor Al Williams urged residents to exercise extreme caution due to dry conditions and reminded that burning permits are required and available at the Hope city office.

Laclede logger injured by chainsaw in hilltop cut

Harold King of Laclede was injured Monday when a chainsaw jerked and cut his face while cutting near Gold Cup. He drove home, then friends took him to Boriier General Hospital where he was treated and released.

Oral Bidding Compromise Approved By Committee

The Senate Agriculture Committee approved a compromise bill to allow oral auctions for timber bidding in western National Forests. It would remove the sealed bid general rule yet empower the Secretary of Agriculture to choose bidding methods, monitor patterns, and act against collusion. Scalded Toddler in Critical Condition in Washington

Tanya Graff, 2, of Othello, was hospitalized in Spokane in critical condition with burns and broken bones after an incident with hot water. Her stepfather Brent Anderson, 31, also of Othello, is charged with second degree assault and held in Adams County jail at Ritzville. Doctors say she faced severe burns over most of her body and could have been in hot water for up to a minute.

Moon New Rotary Head Moon New Rotary Head

Bud Moon was installed as president of Sandpoint Rotary Club during a banquet at the Lifehouse in Hope. About 50 members and guests attended with Bob Towne of Spokane delivering a humorous talk and Tina Gustaveson leading America. The Hill Millies from Coeur d Alene performed and the group has raised about 2500 for cancer research, including 800 this year.

Sandpoint Traffic Survey Aims At Bypass Plan

State transportation crews conducted a traffic survey north of Sandpoint and between Sandpoint and Long Bridge, with 3 500 questionnaires distributed to motorists. The study supports a proposed bypass and a city one way plan, to be analyzed at Baise.
