City officials warned Sandpoint residents to conserve water as high temperatures and heavy use strain the supply. They cited a processing plant running wide open to meet demand and warned that continued liberal use could threaten fire department needs during dry weather.
Richard Charnoick reports Boise state aide D E Skip Chilberg opposes raising state mileage to 15 cents a mile. The Board of Examiners approved the higher rate amid gasoline cost concerns, with Chilberg sending a June 6 letter suggesting 1 cent rise.
Sandpoint and Bonner County prepare for Independence Day events hosted by the Lions Club. The carnival rides are provided by B D Shows under a five year contract. parade judging starts at 8:30 a.m. with the parade at 10:30 a.m. and prizes offered in multiple categories.
Idaho Governor Cecil D. Andrus filed a FOIA suit in federal court against Agriculture Secretary Earl L. Butz Forest Service Chief John R. McGuire and Regional Forester Vern Hamre to obtain regional wilderness recommendations for Idaho. Attorney General W Anthony Park said a hearing on a show cause order could occur in 10 days to two weeks.
Gary W. Gage 25 of Sandpoint was seriously injured in a morning motorcycle crash about half a mile south of Careywood. His bike left the road traveling 281 feet striking two reflector posts. No helmet was found. cause under sheriff investigation with no other vehicles involved.
Former New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller said Nixon's offer to help Egypt and Israel develop nuclear power was wise. He spoke in Spokane at a Republican fund-raiser and argued the act could foster peace and closer U.S. relations, not hurt Watergate concerns.
