Army Corps expects Lake Pend Oreille to reach full pool by July 1

The Army Corps of Engineers said cooler weather and upstream inflows will lower lake inflows this week. Outflows at Albeni Falls Dam will be managed to fill Lake Pend Oreille to full pool elevation of 2062.5 feet by July 1, with current level at 2060.9 feet and an inflow of 95 000 cfs on Tuesday. Inflows are forecast to drop to about 65 000 cfs next Monday.

Dr. Helen Peterson First Woman Grand Marshall in Sandpoint Parade

Dr. Helen E. Peterson known as Dr Pete becomes the first woman to serve as Grand Marshall for Sandpoint Fourth of July Parade. A longtime resident born in Sandpoint she practices locally since 1946 after residency at Lutheran Hospital Cleveland. The Lions Club event runs 10:30 a.m. with a 9:30 a.m. Kids Parade and three day activities including stock races a variety show boxing fireworks junior rodeo street dance and a drawing for a 1975 Ford Pinto.

Four Ounces of Marijuana Missing in County Courthouse

An Idaho county investigation into alleged storage of controlled substances by the county courthouse found about four ounces of marijuana missing. No charges were filed due to insufficient evidence. The probe followed a May petition by John W Strode accusing Sheriff Wilcox of negligence and photos of a basement area. The missing drugs were later found in a second floor storage vault. The case is closed pending new information.

Road Designations for Bonner County Public Meeting Planned

Bonner County plans a public meeting with the County Commissioners to discuss the Functional Classification System for rural roads and highways. Officials will classify roads as arterials major or minor collectors or local roads to guide realignment of the Federal-Aid Highway System and determine funding eligibility. Public input is sought June 27 from 9 am to noon. maps and fact sheets are available in the County Planning Office.

Tax Notice Extends Tax Payment Window During Audit

The real property tax payments for 1974 will be accepted until 5 p.m. Friday and again after July 28 while an audit of the tax rolls is conducted. Treasurer Alice Nelson announced this plan and noted overdue taxes from prior years will also be accepted during the audit period.
