Rodeo Queen Coronation Set in Sandpoint

Bonner County text announces the first Rodeo Queen coronation at the Sandpoint Elks Club this Saturday. Five contestants Sherry Spear Randy Wilcox Judy Davis Carolyn Monroe and Carolyn Bonser compete in a day of judging from 10 a.m. brunch to 2 p.m. horsemanship at the Bonner County Fairgrounds ending with a 6 p.m. dinner and dance.

Rail Mishap Delivers 35000 Gallons of Chemicals To Creek

Six Milwaukee Railroad cars derailed near the Idaho Montana line and released 35000 gallons of chemicals into Cliff Creek, a St Joe River tributary. Caustic soda 25000 gallons and aluminium sulphate 10000 gallons spilled, lime tank leaked minimally. Water running clear 200 feet downstream, brown further on, no dead fish observed. Idaho environmental officials sampled creek water and investigated aquatic life impact.

Idaho health study links lead to Coeur d Alene mining area

The State of Idaho and the Panhandle Health District examine health problems from lead contamination in air water soil and vegetation in the Coeur d Alene Mining District. The research follows lead poisoning cases found in two Kellogg children last winter.

County Clerk Sets Petition Rules for County Seats

County Clerk Doris Kenney announced that a county commission candidate must collect between five and ten voter signatures from the relevant district and may then gather additional signatures from across the county. The rule, grounded in Idaho law, allows district-only collection first. Watts filed for District 2, Anselmo the incumbent filed Monday, with Anselmo having defeated Watts in 1972. Yerkes, Delamarter, and Benda filed for county offices as the race tightens with multiple Democrats and Republicans seeking seats.

Three Youths Expelled For Bomb Threat At Sandpoint Junior High

Three students who allegedly carried out a bomb threat at Sandpoint Junior High in May were expelled for one year by the Bonner County board at a May 30 hearing. The action follows a prior expulsion this spring as threats rose at Sandpoint schools. The students will now be under court and state agency jurisdiction.
