Flying Award Honors Idaho Official For Aviation Innovations
State Aeronautics Director Chet Moulton named general aviation man of the year by Flying Magazine at the ReadingPA air show. Publisher Robert Parke credited Moulton with organizing the first state sponsored search and rescue unit and pushing aerial hazard markers, airport cars, free tiedowns, and the airport in a day program. Previously honored as Idaho’s outstanding employee in 1967.

Canal Drowning Near Hansen Claims Twin Falls Man
Hansen Idaho residents report Paul Palmer 28 of Twin Falls drowned Wednesday in the main line canal south of Hansen while attempting to pull a cable across the stream. Palmer worked for Twin Falls Canal Co and was part of a crew. A fellow crew member jumped in to help but could not save him. Divers Harlan and Norman Fillmore assisted officers in recovering the body as the canal reached depths of 12 to 15 feet.

Idaho highway board bids to open for two county projects
The Idaho Board of Highway Directors announced state bid openings for two projects in Bingham Bonneville Benewah and Jefferson counties. Bids due July 28 cover 6.8 miles of U S Highways 91 191 Shelby to Idaho Falls with leveling course plant mix pavement and seal coat. An August 4 bid date covers about nine miles of State Highway 3 and U S 95 A near Santa and Soldier Creek Hill in Benewah County for plant mix pavement overlay.

A government report from the Idaho Crop and Livestock Reporting Service notes Idaho and eastern Oregon farmers expect to harvest about 9,000 acres of onions this year, up 11 percent from last year and 2 percent above 1968. Poor spring warmth slowed crop development with stands below normal and some replanted acreage.

Idaho Power hearings push rate rise aims to fund expansion
The Idaho Public Utilities Commission resumed hearings on Idaho Power's rate increase request to finance expanding generating and distributing capacity. The panel hopes to finish hearings this week after more than five weeks of testimony, with occasional breaks for other business. BOSE budget chief Holley questioned June auditor totals travel and in-state auto mileage as possibly inaccurate and asked for a revised object-class summary. State Auditor Williams handed the letter to his bookkeeper for review but has no time to verify the totals himself.
