Plane makes emergency landing in Sandpoint Idaho
A Spokane to Calgary bound pilot Albert Visco of Sunnyvale Calif faced icing and disorientation after entering a cloudbank over Canada. Two Air Force jets escorted him but radio issues prevented cooperation. He landed safely at Sandpoint airport after missing Bonners Ferry lights.

Police report a theft of about $350 from Gill's Mobil in Sandpoint. The money was said to be hidden in a storeroom torn up after the store closed. No forced entry or signs of a break in were found.

BPA Administrator Signals Area Power Line Expansion

Notorious Prison Escape Ends in Tragedy Near Rockford
Eugene couple Earl and Viola Hunter, kidnapped June 14 from Eugene by Carl Bowles, were found dead in an irrigation ditch near Rockford Washington after Bowles, an Oregon State Penitentiary escapee, led investigators on a months long chase. Autopsy showed Earl Hunter died of gunshot wounds. Viola's autopsy was incomplete. Bowles had claimed the couple were unharmed, a story contradicted by the discovery.
