Depot removal move boosts Bonner by pass plan

Bonner County Historical Society unanimously adopts a resolution to remove the Great Northern depot from the National Register, a required step for finalizing the highway by pass route. The 1916 depot’s delisting needs federal action and state recommendation, with the final decision by the National Advisory Council.

New Idaho First National Bank Opens in Sandpoint

Officials of the Idaho First National Bank invite the public to a Saturday open house for the new Sandpoint branch. The ceremony starts at 9 30 a m with Mayor Les Brown and dignitaries present. The $325000 bank building spans 8500 square feet with seven teller windows and two drive ins.

Sandpoint Chamber Plans Farm Tour

The Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce will run its annual Farm Tour on Monday July 15 with a 9 a.m. bus from the Court House Parking Lot. Reservations by July 11 are required due to transportation and luncheon, with visits to several local farms and operations in Sandpoint and nearby Priest River.

Sunshine measures to appear on Idaho ballot

Deputy Secretary Bruce Rickerson announced the Sunshine initiative for campaign disclosure and lobbyist registration will head to the Idaho general election ballot. Supporters filed 28,080 valid signatures, about 4,000 over the requirement, with Ada County contributing 13,098 signatures. Petitions for a presidential primary are due to the secretary of state by July 15.

Lumber Theft Reported at Camp Stidwell

Melvin R. Seppala reported to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office that 27 pieces of pine lumber were stolen sometime Monday night between 9:30 and 10 p.m. while he was working at Camp Stidwell, according to Sheriff Robert Wilcox.
