Lumber Firms Give 3 Percent Pay Increase for Western Workers

About 70 percent of workers in the western lumber industry will receive a 3 percent cost of living rise, averaging 15 cents an hour, retroactive to July 1, in 11 states. Woman Dies After Tree Fell On Raft In Grand Teton Park

Nancy Newhall 66 of Albuquerque died from injuries after a spruce toppled onto a large raft on the Snake River during a Grand Teton Lodge Co. trip inside Grand Teton National Park. Her husband Beaumont survived as did five other passengers with minor injuries. The accident occurred June 28 during high water said a park spokesman.

City Council to Ban Glass Alcohol Bottles at Beach

Sandpoint officials moved to draft an ordinance banning alcoholic beverages in glass containers at the city beach. City Attorney Lyons said a law could be enforced. some residents and beach supervisor Bob Linsday urged action citing frequent glass injuries. Councilman Ed Eitzman dissented preferring a litter law.
