Supreme Court limits federal review of police illegal search claims
The Supreme Court ruled criminal defendants have no constitutional right to appeal state court convictions to federal courts on Fourth Amendment grounds. The decision curbs the exclusionary rule by allowing state procedures to fully adjudicate illegal search claims without federal review. The ruling also upheld checkpoints near the Mexican border and related search and seizure decisions.
