New Item Proposed For County Budget In Bonner County

Bonner County proposes a new 50,000 dollar item for solid waste disposal in the budget awaiting a February 8 hearing. Auditor Doris Kenney notes no increases are allowed by law, but reductions may be possible after the hearing. The levy covers a nine month projection with collection starting in December at 50 to 60 percent.

Weather Update for Sandpoint Idaho

Sandpoint experiences mostly cloudy skies with occasional rain or snow flurries through Wednesday. Precipitation chances are 70 percent today and 50 percent tonight and Wednesday, with highs around 40 and lows near 30. North Idaho outlook from Thursday to Saturday shows mostly cloudy conditions with scattered showers and milder highs in the 40s and overnight lows in the mid 20s to mid 30s.

Agents Seize Counterfeit Money in Palm Springs Raid

Secret Service agents seized 2 million dollars in counterfeit hundred dollar bills in Palm Springs California on Sunday. Three men were arrested at a parking lot while attempting to exchange the bills. Since December 1 1970 authorities report 65 arrests and about 2.6 million in fake money confiscated in the jurisdiction. Suspects named are Ronald Freiborn 51 Tarzana James Podola 35 Chicago and John Chabonian Milwaukee.

Power Pole Sheared In Monday Night One Car Crash

A one car accident on State Highway 200 near Sandpoint left a power pole sheared at the base and damage totaling 1100. Barbara J. Surby 45 of Sandpoint escaped injury after her car traveled 75 feet along the shoulder before striking the pole. The pole belonged to Pacific Power and Light Company and no citations were issued.

Lad Informs On Babysitter In Springfield

A 10 year old upstairs told police that the babysitter and three male friends were smoking marijuana. Police arrested the four adults Saturday night after the boy, described as intelligent, reported the odor in the first floor bathroom.

County splits legal notices among three newspapers

In 1969 Bonner County Commissioners agreed to share legal publications evenly among Priest River Times Sandpoint Daily Bee and Sandpoint News Bulletin. Papers chosen alphabetically to receive Proceedings for one year. The Priest River Times printed the proceedings last year. Starting with today’s issue the Daily Bee carries the first Proceedings for 1971 and will remain the county’s legal paper for the rest of the year.

Rivers Jumps Bond Arrest Warrant Issued

Ed Eline of the Lewiston Tribune surrendered on a first degree kidnapping charge involving a 16 year old girl eight months pregnant. The victim said she was struck, abducted, beaten, and sexually assaulted at a laundromat before being taken to Eline’s apartment. Eline previously gained attention for syndicated columns from prison. A separate case notes Harold Rivers, charged in a 1970 burglary in Sandpoint, failed to appear, triggering a bench warrant and $10,000 bond with NCIC notice.
