Clark Fork Band earns spot at Idaho IMEA Conference
Clark Fork Band under David Meehan was selected to perform at the Idaho Music Educators Conference March 23 to 25 at the University of Idaho in Moscow. From 36 state auditions only six bands earned the honor. Janet Meredith coined first chair clarinetist was chosen for the All State Band part of the Gala Concert. Boosters plan a Bingo fundraiser in the Clark Fork Cafeteria on January 21 to help defray trip costs.

Merchants Plan Special Meeting In Sandpoint
Jim Tinsman, chairman of the Retail Merchant Committee, says a special merchants meeting will be held Thursday January 20 at noon at the Pastime. The agenda includes planning for the year and two projects a Check-Alert system and a Courtesy Program to address new fraud measures under the revised criminal code. He urges downtown Sandpoint merchants to attend.

Soviet Vessels Seek Shelter After Coast Guard Seizure
The Soviet embassy said two fishing vessels seized by the Coast Guard within 12 miles of St Matthew Island were seeking shelter from heavy ice and unforeseen circumstances, not violating U S fishing grounds. They refused to move despite a 2 pm EST ultimatum to sail. The Storis had pursued the ships after boarding crews remained aboard during the incident. The embassy spokesman expressed regret over the incident.

Counties edge toward county-wide solid waste control
Bonner County officials and Sandpoint representatives pushed for county led disposal at a joint meeting.
