Southside School Is Now Open Again
Superintendent Jack Jones reports Southside School in Cocolilla is back in operation after six months of reconstruction to replace the arson-destroyed classroom block in November 1969. The new eight to ten room plan includes two extra classrooms and ties to the gym. Tankers Collide Under Golden Gate Spilling Oil
In thick pre-dawn fog two fully loaded tankers the Oregon Standard and the Arizona Standard collided under the Golden Gate Bridge spilling oil into San Francisco Bay. By 1 45 a m at least 210000 gallons had gushed into the bay with three of the four tanks aboard one ship leaking. Coast Guard boats and tugs moved in as oil booms were prepared to contain the spill. Both vessels owned by Standard Oil of California remained together drifting eastward near Angel Island before anchoring three miles from Fisherman's Wharf.
